I should get a "flight" bag and stuff it full of essentials too. Never know when it may come in handy.

i agree that a "bugout" bag is a good idea but, there are 2 types of survival: 1 where you know something is up and have time to prepare.......and no,2 the type where you are thrown into a survival situation with only what you have in your pockets. think about a pocket survival kit too. the only thing i would add to s71quinn's bag is some fishing line and treble hooks and a signaling mirror and whistle.

Now that is something Most folks forget some sort of manual.
Survival Firstaid Orienteering Ect.
It could be a military manual or even a Boyscout hand book information helps. (The older 40's and 50's "Handbook for Boys" is better then the new stuff for survival)

I keep a bugout bag handy but the contents changes constantly, depending on what I have on hand or decide something else will work better. I like the leatherman Core and as far as flashlights have led but they take standard AAA or AA batteries-LOTS easier to obtain if SHTF.

My grab and run bag is pretty simple. but i carry so gear thou. I carry a fishing kit, small gun cleaning kit, flares, extra camies, firstaid kit, large and small knife, paracord, facepaints, electric tape, OFF, multipurpose tool, fold up treach shovel, firestones/ matches/lighters and many other small stuff.
But like Stated in above comment, those Old boy scout manuels come in handy. I carry the first aid, wilderness survival and pioneering.
So everything is literally ready to grab and go
