Which do you prefer? I have used the M-1903A4 in other places and times but I currently own a sporterized M-1917 and I can't find fault in either one.
As a side note: There was NEVER such a rifle as a "P-17", a P-17 was however, an experimental aircraft between WWI and WWII. "P" is a British designation for "Pattern" such as the P-14 Enfield in .303 Caliber. "M", as we all know is for Model, and an American designation. Or more correctly known as "U.S. Rifle Cal. .30 M-1917". Even the N.R.A. cleared up the misnomer too. ;D But the M-1917 is a direct copy of the P-14 with a slightly longer action, actually considered a magnum length action in today's circles.

I gotta say, that's a tough one. I like both. It took some time for me to get used to the sight on my 03Springfield. One day it just clicked. I like the longer 1917, and tend to group better with it.

I own one of each and I have to give the win to my M1917.
