A beater gun is what I call a particular firearm that has lots of scratches, dents, dings, maybe even wood filler too. Also the bluing is gone or almost gone, has some rust, the bore sure isn't the cleanest either. Also, it sure won't win any beauty pageants at all as well. It can be a shotgun, rifle, carbine, handgun etc. . Do you have one? And, what is it? Make and model number and caliber would be of interest too as well. I'd have to say so far, it would be my M-94 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser, at last testing my friend Carl, a machinist from work and I messed with the Lyman peep aperture sight and got it on paper at 100 yards. Nothing to boast about but, at least if I had to, I could take a deer down with it. He repaired the front sight and did some work on the Lyman too. It is an old Oberndorf A/M that has been "sporterized", not a full blown Bubba job, but not quite professional either. My friend Carl wants to sell me his nicely sporterized M-96 Carl Gustav. I shot that rifle and it is extremely accurate, but it would NOT be my beater gun. Reckon I'll have to find another old .30-30 M-94 Winchester as a beater gun. Or an SKS or AK with "compliant" parts to suit Big Brother.

A beater gun? That sounds like about 1/2 the firearms I own. Seriously I have an OLD Savage single barrel shotgun that belonged to my great uncle and granddad. It looks like hell but the outside don't reveal where I've backbored it & tapered the forcing cone. What you can see from the outside is where I ported it but most people don't pay attention to that. Needless to say, I've taken a bunch of other people's money with it.

My favorite beater gun is my 1952 Hungarian M44 Mosin carbine. I built it from spare parts. The stock looks like an alligator gnawed on it and stuffed it under a log for 10 years underwater. The bore is pretty crusty but it's a tack driver. It contains parts from 5 different Mosin producing nations. A total mutt but I think I have a total of $18 wrapped up in it.
