And yes, contrary to popular belief, there is a big difference!!!! A Magazine is a "box" shaped device that is found on said rifles such as the M-1A / M-14, M-1 Carbine, M-1911A1 and like pistols etc. . Ask any proper gun savvy English bloke about this subject or the NRA and they will fill you in. A Clip is either usually a stripper clip or an En-Bloc clip that is commonly found in the M-1 Garand, stripper clips are mostly used for the M-1903, K-98, M-1917, and like rifles. Another oddity is the Carcano line of rifles / carbines because it is more or less a charger clip, which loosely meant, it retain its clip and is ejected from the bottom of the weapon when the last round is spent. So the next time you are at the range and you hear someone say to his buddy: "Hand me another "clip" for my {whatever brand pistol}", you can correct them by this little tid bit of knowledge.

There are also "box magazines" on some commercial rifles as well. The Remington 7600 comes to mind as well as some other Remington rifles at one time. I'm not sure but I think Winchester had mag fed rifles too, before they went out of business a few years back. Thank God they are back! The return of a true American icon!

A clip feeds the magazine and a magazine feeds the firearm.
Trav..the Carcano uses a Mannlicher clip. This was also used in the Steyr M95's and the French Bertier rifles and carbines. Technically it is an en-bloc clip.
And don't forget chargers. Rimmed cartridges such at the .303 British and 7.62x54R used them.
