I can see this as being a VERY viable weapon especially in the .308 Win. Carbine or even the Rifle, because then you could in a pinch use 7.62x51mm NATO and even acquire 10 round magazines instead of the usual 5 rounders and I have even seen in the past 15 round magazines for this Rifle / Carbine in said caliber and also in .223 / 5.56mm "7615" which takes AR-15 / M-16 mags. as well. They will accept a scope and we all know a decent 3x-9x or a 4x-12x will suffice VERY well in either .308 or .223.
OR.... Iron Sights, it will work well in .308 / 7.62mm or .223 / 5.56mm. Too bad they don't make them in 7.62x39mm or 7.62x54Rmm.
I'd take a 7600 Carbine in .308 as a SHTF weapon because of these reasons: #1 .308 / 7.62 is found ALL over the planet {NATO}, #2 ease of handling in a Carbine, #3 scopes CAN be an aide if need be up to 800 meters in a Carbine and that can get you a bigger caliber weapon to have as well. And also in a pinch, .308 / 7.62 will drop a deer to eat on until you can raid a cache of MRE's or take over a Chow Hall or Butcher Shop or Deli. .
Would I actually own one of these now for hunting? YES! In .308 / 7.62, or .35 Whelen. I like to keep my calibers simpler than a flea on a dog and this 7600 Pump Action Carbine could be the ticket as a "Bug Out / SHTF" weapon.

That's a darn good idea-I LIKE it! A .308 is all you need for anything in north america with the right bullets & it has almost the rate of fire as a semi-auto. If it's accurate enough (a BIG if), it could even take the place of the bolt action in 7.62x51mm. It makes a LOT of sense for a all around hunting/shtf/survival rifle.

Also, if you needed a bit more power, .30-06 or .35 Whelen too.
Or the semi auto 7400 too, those would be a decent choice as well.

I've been thinking on exactly that. The gas system has always been a major weak point along with the flimsy extractor. I'd venture to guess bedding/ free floating would be the 2nd thing I'd do, along with trigger work. Then we'd go from there.
