Who uses wildcat cartridges or has used them? I know Neil has a dandy one himself.
I'd like to go with a wildcat like the 6.5x284 someday, very accurate in the match circles and should be a very good deer rifle as well. I'd also like the .280 A.I. someday as well. But these are on the back burner now.

There used to be holes in the factory lineup that made really good sense to use wildcats in, like 6.5mm-08 and .338-06, but the factories have been filling them lately, so I don't see as much reason as there used to be to go wildcat. I am building an 8mm-06 though that ought to be fine elk medicine.

Jeff, I like all three that you mention. But then again, the 6.5-08 is more or less the .260 Rem., which why try to fix what is not broken? In which, the cartridge I mean is the 6.5x55mm Swedish. Now the 6.5-06 is another "hum dinger" option in my book too in case I don't go with the .280 Ackley Improved.
Now here is a question. If you Ackley Improve the .260 Rem. and the 6.5x55mm Swedish, which would have "The Upper Hand" Velocity wise and Foot Pounds wise?
I like the "Quarter Bores" in the .25 calibers, but I do feel IMHO that the 6.5-06 would have a slight edge over the .25-06 as in B.C. . Correct me if I'm wrong folks, please? I'm willing to listen and learn here.
The 8mm-06 is SLOWLY coming back since Hornady released the 195 gr. projectile some years ago. I happened to be involved in the {K98K Page} forum that Hornady's Dave Emary belonged to and I had another mint 7.92x57mm Preduzece 44 at the time and chimed in on my interest in having Dave convince the company to make that 195 gr. bullet for the 8mm buffs out there too which they did not too long afterward.

I based my wildcat on the .375 Ruger case. I shortened it .100 & necked down to .284 with no other changes. Why make a wildcat in 7mm when we have so many factory 7mm cartridges? Just for the reason of 3425-3450 fps with a 140 gr Nosler Ballistic tip & 3 of them going into an honest 1/2" at 200 yards-all from a standard 06 length action.
If they come out with any more short mags, I'll SCREAM!!!!!!!!!
